Multi-Disciplinary Research Unit

Established under the Department of Health Research's scheme for the Development of Infrastructure for Promotion of Health Research, the MRU strengthens the research environment and builds health research capacity at CMC and beyond.

The Multi-Disciplinary Research Unit (MRU) at Christian Medical College, Vellore, was established under the Central Sector Scheme for "Development of Infrastructure for Promotion of Health Research," administered by the Department of Health Research (DHR), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India.

The scheme originally set up MRUs in government medical colleges and research institutes, where 118 had been established by 2025. That year, DHR extended it to private medical colleges, inviting the highest-ranked private colleges in the NIRF 2024 medical rankings to apply. CMC Vellore was among the few private medical colleges selected, and its MRU was approved in September 2025.

The main objectives of the MRU are:

  • Encourage and strengthen a research environment within the College
  • Build capacity and human resources in health research
  • Undertake collaborative, multidisciplinary, multi-centric research projects involving researchers within CMC and outside.
  • Coordinate with other MRUs to build research capacity beyond CMC.
