Fluid Research Grant

How many grants you can hold

• Ordinarily, a PI holds no more than 3 Fluid Research Grants at a time. A grant counts until its study is closed on the IRB Portal.
• From your 3rd Fluid Research Grant onwards, each new grant is given only if research funded by your earlier fluid grants has been published in a journal with an impact factor of 2 or higher, or ranked in the first or second quartile in Scopus.

Budget

• Give an itemised budget in the IRB application.
• If the budget is more than ₹3,00,000, say where the rest comes from — departmental funds, special funds or other earmarked funds.
• For studies longer than a year, no more than ₹1,50,000 is released in the first year.
• Stationery, printing and paper are capped at ₹8,000 for the whole study.
• Name laboratory investigations specifically, and budget tests at C-rates where you can.

The grant ordinarily cannot pay for:

• Staff or hired manpower
• Equipment, mobile phones or gadgets
• Outsourced work
• Translation, unless done through an institutional facility
• Investigators’ travel

Capital items are generally not approved. Where one is allowed and lasts more than a year, it is returned to the Research Office when the study ends.

After approval

1. If the budget is approved, an agreement comes with your IRB approval letter. You, and your guide if you have one, sign it and return it within 30 days.
2. The research account is opened within 7 working days of the signed agreement arriving.
3. For a study longer than a year, the second instalment is released after your interim or annual report is reviewed. Ask for it before the approved study period ends — later requests are not honoured.
